A Highly Mobile Drilling Rig Capable of Working Efficiently in Extreme Arctic Conditions

DDI Rig 14 is a fully integrated, single-module unit that measures 127 feet long by 56 feet wide, and is capable of drilling on twelve foot well spacing. The single module layout consists of three fully enclosed levels to provide maximum operational and heating efficiency. The ground level contains the mud pits, fuel and water tanks, pipe shelter, centrifugal pumps, rig hydraulics, and wheel assemblies. The second level consists of the steam boilers, moving hydraulics, support equipment, mud sack room, generators and solids control equipment. The third level comprises the rig floor, derrick and high line power transformer unit.

The rig is self-moving, utilizing a Columbia hydraulic wheel system capable of 2.5 mph over level roadways. For well-to-well moves, or level pad-to-pad moves, the mast remains standing, which decreases moving time. For longer pad-to-pad moves, the mast is lowered to a cradle on the substructure, and is moved with the module. The rig floor is a sliding cantilever, allowing for movement of the mast toward the center of the rig structure for wheel load balancing.

The mast hoisting capacity is 500,000 lbs. with a ten-line hook up, and the substructure is capable of a simultaneous load of 290,000 lbs. for pipe set back, and 400,000 lbs. rotary table load.
